Display Settings...

Postby Lindalee » Sun Mar 20, 2005 6:55 pm

Hi,

I just bought PhotoSuite 7....a photo editing software...downloaded it...and can't get it to work...because when I try to open it...a box comes up that says "Change Display Settings". It says "The current display settings do not match the minimum requirements for this application. Please change the screen resolution to 1024 x 768 pixels or higher, and set the color quality to 16 bit or higher. I did it...made the change...and it still doesn't work! When I click on the program...the box still comes up...and I noticed...that when the box comes up...if I go over to my desk top and right click...go to display...the resolution is set at "8"...or "low". So...it's kind of like my changes aren't taking. Well..it's taking ok on my computer...but when I click on the program...the program acts like it never changed...because it shows the 8 bit.

ANY ideas why this is happening and what could be an easy solution?

After you set the settings, click on apply and you should get a menu of choices:

To apply without rebooting
or reboot.

Choose without rebooting. You then have 15 seconds to click on the new settings window and click on accept, or it reverts back to the original settings.

This is a safety feature, if the screen messes up real bad, just wait and it will return to what it was.

when I click on Apply...I don't get a menu of choices. I click on apply...then I hit "Okay"....and it appears that it changes it ok. Because the next time I look at the settings...they are correct.

But...then I click on the photo program...and I hear a "click"...and the screen goes black for a second...and then my desktop comes up...and it's obvious from looking at the desk top that the settings aren't right...and that box comes up saying to change the settings (which I have already done...ha ha).

Although...it appears that once it takes me to the desk top (after going black for a second)...that the settings have reverted back to the 8 bit color.

I don't get it...because it really does look like the change has taken. ONLY when I click on that photo program does it seem to revert back to the 8 bit color. I don't get it.

Perhaps your system is not capable of running those settings? Are you using an older monitor?

I bought my computer/monitor about 3 years ago...a new HP. I would assume it would be ok...but you may be on to something. How do I check the info. on my monitor? Does it have something to do with a video card? (I don't know anything about checkin info. on video card).

I would say if its 3 years old it likely wont manage 1024 - 768. Do a search on the net for your monitor model and check out the specks or leave us the name and model and we can resaerch it for you

You may need to change the settings then reboot the machine also, color settings will not change until a reboot occurs.

rebooting...

Postby Lindalee » Mon Mar 21, 2005 1:17 am

I tried that twice...but will do it again. This is so odd...I wish you could see how it just switches back from the settings I change it to...to the lower setting (8 bit). But it only does it when I try to open up the photo software.

Yes it does. Have you tried to go to the nVidia website and download the latest drivers and install them?
