how long does this echo take?

If it is very/very fast, try Muting your microphone. (double click the speaker on the lower right hand corner)

If it's more of a studder (eg. Heh-heh-lo-lo-lo) then you probably have a recource conflict, such as a shared IRQ or DMA address. The simplest way to fix this would be to move the soundcard to another slot if it's not built into the motherboard. If it's built in, you could try to assign it to a specific irq/dma address which would have to be done through your bios. You would have to look at your motherboard manual in order to find the spefic setting. You may also have luck re-assigning the device to another IRQ/DMA via the DEVICE MANAGER, but consider yourself lucky if that actually works.
