Air Flow/Fan Placement

Postby white_rabbit » Fri May 07, 2004 10:08 pm

Hi,

Following on from my post on adding a new heatsink & Fan, I was wondering how would be best to get some good airflow through my case.

I have just one 92mm Acoustifan as an exhaust at the top rear of the case, a 120mm psu exhaust (which, however, is an Aopen X-power psu, which has the fan pointing down at the cpu not straight out of the system) and have just bought a nice new thermaltake silent boost HSF.

I am a bit concerned that my case is lacking any intakes and was wondering if there are any solutions to adding some fans on the front. E.g. installing one in a spare drive bay slot as there is no intake bracket on my case. Also do you think that having the 120mm psu fan blowing directly onto my cpu would be good for cooling or bad? I'm still not sure. I also thought that it might disrupt the direction of the airflow through the case.

And last of all, would adding some pci exhaust fans be any use? Phew, sorry for the lengthy question!

Personally I've always run all my systems with the case off, I drilled a dirty freat hole in me case and mounted a mains fan at one point, and I breifly mooted the idea of piping the fridge in the next room...... anyhow.

For max-extreme-mega-blurgh see:

Remember, First law of thermodynamics - Heat always passes from a hot body to a cool body aombined with heated air rises and is less dense, whilst bearing in mind that objects block airflow.

Myself, If I was feeling the urge again - I'd rip the damn PC apart and lay stuff out in a sensible order.

AGP fans crease me!

PS My first post so apologies if I killed anything

HTH Peace

I like the fridge idea

I've just installed a new thermaltake Silent Boost HSF and have lost 30 degrees C off my CPU temp!!! My overheating worries should now be over! Was well worth removing my stock HSF for.
