New Motherboard Installation/Video Problems....

Postby Sithxace » Fri May 07, 2004 1:49 pm

ok have a computer, with good working RAM, good video card "Radeon 9700" and everything. I just got a motherboard from ebay the ASUS A7N8X Delux. He said everything including AGP slot worked. I trust his because his rating on ebay is great.

I install the new motherboard, I add my DDR RAM that is capatable into the otherboard, then add cpu/ Radeon 9700 in AGP slot. Now after everything is on, I turn the pc on, fans are on, LED's in motherboard is on, i believe the cpu is on too, but with the monitor plugged into the VGA slot of my vid card, it shows as if there is no signal going to the monitor.

I know one thing happened once, when I removed on stick of the two sticks of memory, i turned it on and had the monitor come on but stuck the the POST screen shwoing the processor etc. So I turn the pc off, left everything alone except plugged in the keyboard and mouse to the pc, and after tunring the pc on again, the monitor did not show anything again, like no signal or anything.

I know that I've touched the case many times so it is hard to believe that static has anything to do this. I am lost, as I speak I am working on troubleshooting this pc, any help with be nice, thanks.

do you have another video card to try? Any will do, another AGP a PCI, anything to test it. If not, try to re-seat the video, some cards are really difficult to get just right. (esp if the clip holder on the mobo, and the clip on the card don't quite match up.)

you may also want to try different ram... Even though the ram might be perfectly fine, if it's older, it might not be compatible with your new setup. I always suggest going to a local office supply store or electronics store and picking some up there. That way if you don't have any better luck, you can simply return it. (you'll also find great deals after rebates if you hit the right store at the right time)
