Outlook express 4

Postby noby » Sat Apr 10, 2004 9:58 am

Hi,

How can I import the adress book and the messages from Outlook Express 4 to outlook express 5 or 6? In OE 5&6 the messages are in *.dbx format, while in OE 4 they are in idx format. I tried importing the messages by selecting import from OE 4 but it refused to do it, saying there were no files that could be imported. The adressbook i saved as comma separated values, and here he would like to change the field that is to be imported.
I'm running Win98 FE; and I need this data for a clean reinstall

I hope there is another way

Hey RB,

I installed Dawn. When I opened Dawn it displays an error message as follows :

C:\windows\profiles\vakbond\Application Data\Microsoft\Installer\{29FD8D69-4535-8F2E-5190561164C3}\7ac52c52.exe

is not a valid Win32 application

and closes...So what am I to do now?
I hope you have some Easter suggestions....

See if this helps:
In order to import OE4 messages they must be located on a local hard drive in a sub-folder named Mail and must not have the Read Only attribute set. (This is commonly set if they were backed up on a CD.)
Make sure that the MBX/IDX file pairs are there along with Folders.nch. Then use File | Import | Messages | Microsoft Outlook Express 4 and point to the folder that holds the /Mail sub-folder, not to the /Mail sub-folder itself or the data files.
If you cannot get this to work, use this tool to extract the messages as *.eml files and then drag the messages back in to an OE folder:
