The Dentist

I despise going to the Dentist it has to be the worst thing every.

It starts from the moment I open the door that smell, antiseptic combined with a hint of ground tooth dust.
Next is the receptionist she is too much like Barbie with the smile and “how are you today?”
I can think of a million places I would rather be that’s how I am today.
Now I have to sit and wait, I got here on time my appointment was for 8:00 I signed in at 7:58 but I have to wait.
The dentist office has the worst magazines it’s either AARP or Kids World I planed ahead I had a book.
My name is called after 20 minutes goes by, I am then escorted to the “Dental Chair” and given a “Bib”, how humiliating.
I am 6’ 3” tall and every Dental chair I have been in is too short, my feet hang off the end.
I also resent the fact that when I am I the chair the Dentist and the Assistant are always behind me I can never see their faces.
When you finally see their faces they are covered with a mask like some bank robber, I feel secure and relaxed now.
Today’s pleasure was one extraction (cracked tooth under a crown) and a root canal how fun.
So it was shots right away “you might feel a little pressure” they always say right when they
stick that needle in the roof of your mouth it’s a little more than just pressure.
I will not give the details of the procedures. Once the were all done here comes escort Barbie to take me to the billing lady.
Yes that is right you have to pay them to inflect this pain on you and the pain that will came later when the shots ware off.
I can see the front door now I’m getting close, no Barbie stops me again
“we have to make you an appointment so you can come and see us again.”
I am escorted to yet another desk to set my return visit now I am not asked what time or day would be good for me.
I am assigned a date and time and told if I miss my appointment I will be charged.
So I am done I can leave but before I can reach the front door and get a breath of fresh air
I hear Barbie say loud enough for everyone to hear “by by now and have a nice day”

Last month I had a root canal on a back molar that already had a crown on it.
Boy what fun!!! $700 for 45 minutes of work. I'm just glad I had insurance!

You might try switching doctors, I've had a few that would have been better as
funeral directors.

As much as I hate going to the dentist, I still drive two hours to get to mine.
You just need to find the right mix of people.

Well described Gecko, I can understand what you feel while visiting your dentist. I also have somewhat same feelings while visiting my implant dentist, but don't have another option as have to visit him every now and then these days as having my soon! what to do
