Disc checking/possible virus issue

Postby Helbourne » Mon Feb 23, 2004 5:22 pm

When my computer first boots up, I get the usual "One of your discs needs to be checked for consistency, press any key within 10 seconds.." message. During this time I can press any key on the keyboard and it won't cancel, I've even tried to disable the check in the BIOS but I can't seem to figure out how. Anyways, during the check I get the message "\Program Files\Overnet\temp\(Band.of.Brothers.Part.01).avi\1.19 is cross-linked on allocation unit 786480." I'm almost positive it's a virus I must've gotten, how can I get around the disc check to fix it, or is there any other way to solve the problem?

From the Windows Start menu, go to Turn off computer and click Restart.
As the computer restarts, watch for a progress bar at the bottom of the screen. press F8 about once every second.
Immediately press F8 before the progress bar reaches the right side of the screen.
From the Windows Start-up menu, highlight Safe Mode and press Enter.
Now run the virus scan. You might also run chdsk from the Start / Run window.
