need help...computer freezes

Postby ArtE » Mon Feb 23, 2004 3:46 am

custom system (4 years old):

p4 1.4
40gig hd (western digital)
256 rambus (generic)
geforce2 gts 32mb
XP OS

problem:
the computer will suddenly freeze. the monitor will turn off then on...the screen will freeze. loss of keyboard and the mouse (usb optical mouse) will turn off...the optical lights will turn off. when i reset the computer, it will continually beep. i can't even hold the reset button for 10 secs to turn off the pc so i have to turn off the computer thru the back switch.

what do you guys think? bad vid card? bad memory? memory leak? its been going on 4 days now. i ran a virus program (norton)...clean system. i checked the device manager, no conflicts. any ideas?

thanks in advance,
Art

Is the Video card a separate card or is it built into the Mobo? You could try re-seating the card.
If you can find another machine running Rambus Ram try swapping them.
This didn't start after you updated the drivers, did it?
