Cursor jumps, missing keystrokes

Postby pdeinc » Sat Feb 21, 2004 4:34 am

Sony laptop, 1.2 Ghz, 256K, WinXP & now W2K - Spybot & adaware, McAfee. Frequently when booted up, cursor will lag then jump ahead and when typing, keystrokes are missed.

No suspicious process running, CPU & memory usage low, I'm out of ideas!

When did this start? Try what liljim suggests. If that doesn't get it try reloading (updating) the drivers for the Touchpad and Keyboard.

Thanks for the responses - it was doing it before McAfee was installed, but I have disabled the A/V just to make sure. All the drivers were reloaded when I changed from XP to 2000.

I was even suspicious of XP being part of the problem but nothing changed by going to W2K. All things considered, since I can't find any memory or CPU hog running, no viruses or spyware, I'm almost inclined to believe that it is a driver problem, just an intermittant one. I might see if I can find any updated drivers from Sony. Until then I'm still open to other suggestions.

No updated drivers available but there was a BIOS update available so I downloaded and installed it. So far no problems, I'll post an update in about a week.
