Not recognised

Postby Psymon » Wed Jun 10, 2009 1:32 am

Every few seconds, a tip balloon pops up saying:

"USB Device Not Recognized
One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognize it. For assistance blah blah blah."

I've pulled out all my USB stuff and it still happens.

It only started happening after I recently cleaned my pc. Used a foot pump to knock out loads of dust. I didn't make contact with the mother board at any point.

Sometimes it will pop up once every 5 seconds. Then there's times where it just won't happen for a few minutes.

I've checked for if a lump of dust is shorting something but there's nothing.

My efforts at googling a fix have been fruit less. Leaving the PC off/power cable out didn't work.

Any ideas?

Well.... every time it popped up it was making my games lag, which is totally unacceptable.

I open my pc up again, have another poke and a blow to check everything, boot it, problem solved....

Loose connection, unfortunate bit of dust, I'll never know, but I can put this behind me now.

srsly, this thing was driving me CRAZY and I wanted help so much. I'm glad I managed to resolve it since it was a hardware thing and getting a new skt 939 mobo wasn't in my interests.

I am getting the same error message and have tried it on several machines with varying stats. I am trying to install an HP P2015dn printer to a computer and it worked fine last week but now its acting up I did the typical reinstall, uninstall of the USB managers reboots tried different jacks different cords different drivers updated drivers etc and nothing has seemed to work. I googled the issue and looked through the windows knowledge bases and they seem to be as confused as I am on what could be wrong.

I have recently came across a little USB utility that help me resolve a USB problem I was having.
Maybe it will help you chase down your problem as well.
It's called USBDeview and can be download from here:

Thanks gecko for the utility but my issue was a bad formatter board after 2 hours of "trouble shooting" the printer with HP to confirm what I was seeing happen they had me ship it in for service.
