file compression

Hey everyone, this is just a lil post to ask what methods people find best for file compression?
I am doing a test file now with two different software, one being winrar and the other KGB Archiver (which i found after searching on google).

My test file is an .AC3 @ 591 MB (620,474,880 bytes)

Winrar came out @ 582 MB (610,504,379 bytes) which I consider incredibly poor. I used some settings people recommended on another site I found via google again.

KGB Archiver is working away at the same file, but says 5.30 hours remaining, so I can only assume this is compressing it much better.

I will of course post results up when done, but in the mean time does anyone else have any input?

I use winrar, but typically the compression is limited to the original file.
A good audio or picture format will already be very optimised and so won't compress much.
a raw picture or whatever should compress much better...

I used winrar to get UTGOTY down from 1.06GB to 543MB.
How good winrar does is also optional, since it asks 'none, fastest, normal, best, etc.' when you make the rar file.

Sorry i should have mentioned, i used the best compression in winrar and still came out with that fail result.

ok so after 5:48:43 its done (what a joke!)
size before :591mb
size after :574mb

i saved more than with winrar but i do not think it was worth that wait!

i guess winrar wins

Gotta love the benchmark built into winrar too. Quick and easy way of comparing CPUs.
I peak at about 1080 KB/s.
