PC Dead? Mobo? HDD? PSU? Help!!

Postby aragorn78 » Wed Feb 04, 2004 3:56 pm

Big Problem: :(

Computer froze upon being idle. After restarting, the computer froze again during the windows xp load up screen...noticed a burning smell from tower and concluded that it was the crappy 180w power supply. I installed a new Antec 300w power supply, but it would still not send a signal to the monitor nor would it boot. No ERROR BEEPS were audible.

I believe the mobo is receiving power as the fans come on and the red mobo led comes alive, but the DVD is writer also not responding and the HDD led comes on for about 2 seconds before going out and not responding When I first power up.

??????

I'm at a loss and don't know where to begin since I was sure it was the power supply. The burning smell vanished when I installed the new PSU.

Can anyone help me. I would appreciate any info offered.

Thanks

AMD Athlon 1800+ XP, SiS730S mobo, HP DVD Writer, Samsung HDD, Windows XP sp1.
