8600 GTS GPU Cooler Mod

This is the Heatsink and fan from a AM2 CPU. I stripped off the stock heatsink from the heat pipes, and attached the bigger cooler. With the stock cooler, it ran at 80 degrees in COD4. Now it runs at 69 Degrees.

The smaller fan blows under the heatsink directly onto the board and the memory chips.

its a bit chunky, but not bad for a custom mod mate :)

I know, luckily though, the board faces upward just as it shows in the pics, so weight is not an issue.

But this was more or less just an experiment.

I plan to upgrade to a 8800 in the near future.

This 8600 is holding me back. I would like to benchmark it with the proper card to match my Phenom.

Keep in mind the reason I am doing this instead of using a bigger case, is so I can build up the "Mighty Paq"

This is what it looks like on the outside:

But the inside however is far from the original. Only two of the drives are actually original. Everything else in the case has been changed. LOL Kind of reminds me of the stock looking car with a beefed up motor...sleepers.

thats cool in all aspects

You cant get much more of a mod than that. You can always buy something but theres nothing better than building your own. From 80 to 69 is even more impressive than the fact that its a home made mod.

Nice work and thanks for showing us.
