Help with 5.1 surround on xp wmp11

Postby marth989 » Thu Jan 24, 2008 1:12 am

Im running xp media center with a 8 channel sound card, it has via vinyl drivers that are completely up to data, hooked up to it are a set of 5.1 speakers, the thing is that everything on my computer works perfectly with my 5.1, from systems sounds to itunes, the only exception being wmp11. for some unknown reason wmp11 will only play sound though my front right speaker and none of my others, wmp11 is completely up to data so i don't know what the problem is,

please could someone help me :(

Lets check your windows settings.

Open My Computer>Sounds and Audio Devices
At the bottom of this window, under "Speaker Settings" click Advanced.
Make sure its set to 5.1

If that doesnt get it, you should have a via control panel or some type of via sound options in your taskbar next to your clock. You should have a 5.1 downmix option in there somewhere. I dont have any machines here with via chipsets , i do my best to aviod their products, so i apologize for not being able to give detailed instructions on their software.

thanks for your help though, if you or anyone can think of anything eles please post waht you know :?

are you on about dvds in wmp11? because they should come out in 5.1 i think. If its only music, music is only 2 channels.

if not, try set it through windows media player

hope that is clear enough.

we'll it is a bit strange. my old cyberlink dvd program wouldnt output in 5.1, i got the new pro version and then it worked as 5.1 so i dont really know what your next step is. My windows media doesnt play in 5.1 but i think its because i am using spdif out, rather than a computer specific sound system (ie 5 differnt jacks or whatever going to a sound card).
