howdy

I just bought a new laptop and it has a LAN wireless card in it. I already have a PC hooked up to a fixed broadband modem.

What do i need to connect my laptop to the net wireless but still have my PC hooked up. Is it just a wireless router I need ?

Yea you need a wireless router, either a dls for or adsl depending on what type of connection you have. Unfortuantly at my uni house we have cable broadband, so we needed to buy a more expensive router.

Something like this

You will need to make it secure your self, but people here will help with that.

Ok the wireless router i bought wasnt BT compatible ( who my service is with here in ireland).

is it possible to buy a wireless router and just connect it up with my current modem so i dont have to go through the config of the modem again?

The problem is I cant remember my username/password to configure another modem.

KenA,

Yes that is right, just make sure you get the wireless router type that your laptop supports.

KenA

Click on this link: http://192.168.1.1
username: blank (dont type anything)
password: admin

Click on the wireless tab > click on wireless security

You can selected WEP, 64bits and type a 10 digit password in key 1

Or select WPA-personal, either TKIP or AES type any password which has min of 8 characters
