Building My Own PC

Postby Twist » Tue Nov 06, 2007 12:30 am

Good evening all.

About March next year I am looking to attempt to build my own PC. (yes attempt!)

I want a farily good performance PC as I am quite an avid gamer. I would like to gain as much help as possible on this matter and found this website on Google and it looks very good from here!

I will probably be asking some very dumb questions, but hey they must be asked.

Do you think I should go for a dual core pentum. What is this quad core all about? I am not interested in AMD. Would rather have Penitum. What sort of motherboard would you guys recommend and which types of fans to keep the PC cool and a decent PSU.

I would like to try and do this on a rather good cost and save as much as possible.

And the reason im posting now is to find out as much as possible, because as above I will not start this until March!

So any help, hints or advice are most welcome. I look forward to hearing and recieving your help guys and girls!

Thankyou!

There will be much newer components in march, so it seems to me a silly idea to plan on a pc now that you wont build for a while.

But as for cpu, i have heard that quad core is a bit overkill at the moment, but seeing as you wont build till march it may come in handy, as i think more and more games will be released that will be able to utilise quad core.

Right now theres only a hand full that that utilize dual core cpu's. John Woo:Stranglehold is among the first to have a "Enhanced for dual core" label.

If you want to build a new PC in March, look for components late Feburary!
Also, get clued up starting now. Find a monthly 'custom PC' magazine of some kind so you can find out about current and upcoming hardware.
Even better, find a good news website (or a few) so you can get loads of reviews and news for free.
Crysis makes good use of multiple cores and i think UT3 engine games like strangle hold might, as mentioned.
But even if you weren't gaming, I'd still say get more than 1 core.
