IE says "This program has encountered a problem..."

Postby Lindalee » Sun Aug 26, 2007 3:49 pm

Hi,

My mother says that when she tries to open her IE, the message comes up that it has encountered a problem and needs to shut down. I feel like this may have happened to me at one time...and I'm trying to remember if this is caused by a hijacking problem or what. Any advice I can give her? Would she need to go into Safe Mode and see if it would work there...and then download "Hijack This"? :?:

That would definately be a start.

Another stab at it would be to go to:

Start > Control Panel > Performance & Maintainance > Administrative Tools > Event Viewer

Check through the 3 categories. You're looking for yellow or red icons beside an event. If there's any, post them back in a reply.

If there's nothing in the EV, boot in safemode and try IE there. Also then try HijackThis. Fix any errors. Boot normally. Try IE again. If it still doesnt work, run HJT again, this time in normal boot mode. Fix any errors.

Please post both logs After you've finished.
