microsoft update screwup!

Postby arty » Sun Jul 15, 2007 11:30 am

Greetings,people!...my XP Pro SVC PK2 Auto Updates sent me a 'critical security update for.NET..svc pk1..mixed in with 5 other updates!...
Been to 10 or 20 gozzilian pages of Microsoft gibberish to find out what this update contained and..."Has absolutely No effect on XP svc pk 2"
The bitch won't leave my icon tray, and is causing 'Critical' and annoying alerts on my wireless network I set up for my motel.
the Alert only appears on my NETWORK MAGIC SOFTWARE and I simply disable 'Alerts'..........BUT.....this disables my 'Intruder Alerts as well.
does any one know how to get that little 'Downloads Ready' icon off my machine?........It only shows on my laptop and not on any other units in my network.............If I have to go to every freakin' Microsoft process and read every word they ever wrote, I'd have to retire in order to have the time for that crap..................I know one of my pals out there may know the answer!
After all.....you guys taght me EVERTHING I now know!.....peace,ARTY[/b]

Hey mate.
You could just install the update, but someone else might have another idea.

Ok.. you have several ways of doing this..

Firstly.. when you click on automatic updates and choose to examine the list of updates to be installed, when you untick the update, there should also be a tick box that says "do not ask me about these updates again".

the other option is to go into windows security centre, click the link to "change the way security dentre alerts me" and turn of the system tray icon in there.

hope this helps.
