Programs missing?

Postby D_N_M » Wed Jul 11, 2007 7:58 pm

Hello

I'm not certain if this is the right place for this question but here goes.
I went into Add-Remove programs to remove trojan hunter because the 30 day trial had expired (nifty program bye the way) and went it populated the list all but 8 programs were gone?? No firefox no updates no AVG no nothing.. just adobe 2 times my Python printer and a few others.
Any ideas as to where they may be Hiding???

Thanks in advance for any help it is always appreciated

Try rebooting and try again. If that fails, download Add/Remove pro (it's a free download) and see if that helps.

No luck with the add/remove pro and no luck with reboot.
I am looking through my firewall log and UDP port 0 is being accessed with nothing but ???'s for the info on it.
I'm starting to thing there is something more going on than i am seeing.
Should we consider this to be a security issue and move this post to there?
My firewall is freezing half of the time so I contacted ca etrust and they said it may be the firewall is corrupt? so they sent me a link (via live session) and when I tried to run it it said I don't have the the privilages to run it try logging back on as Admin . But the thing is I AM on the Admin Acct.
So any thoughts?
Thanks D_N_M

I have googled My butt off and found several topics on forums including Microsoft but most pertain to a Long blank space between programs listed and not scrolling down to it (can be quite long) but nothing have I found that has fixed the problem. I Reckon if the programs work as usual but won't populate in the add/remove is not really a big deal until an uninstall ???
in which there are other means to remove programs that are unwanted. so I Reckon all is well and upon a few re-installs including My ca etrust has shown up in the add/remove programs.
Any input is always appreciated

It does sound like you might have a bug in your system. See if you can get an online scan with Trend Micro's Housecall program. Let me know if it comes up with anything.

You also may want to go through this, perhaps one of the suggestions will help you. It seems theres quite a few people dealing with the same problem.

Do the programs that are missing from add/remove programs still work?

Bear in mind that the list you see in add/remove programs doesn't actually check what is and isn't installed. it is stored in a registry key together with a link to the uninstall program/uninstallshield script. This key can be modified manually, or automatically by programs. Not a major concern if the programs still work and you haven't noticed any other problems (unable to visit AV/spyware removal websites etc).

There is one thing to check. I've noticed that when you install a hot copy of Auto Cad, it looks like the add remove window only has about 8 items in it. But if you scroll down through about two feet of blank space, the rest of your programs are still there to add or remove. So scroll on down, I'll bet they're still there.

So when you scroll down, probably the first listing after the long blank or where its starts, could be the culprit
