BIOS problem.

Postby Neb » Sun Jul 08, 2007 5:45 pm

Not sure if this is the correct place to post this but;

I was updating my BIOS yesterday, and my power decided to go out. =[ When I start the PC up, it just goes to a black screen. Help please.

Well Neb, thats the absolute worse case scenario in bios flashing. Depending on the bios/board you may have a restore option though.

What is the the board info, I need to know who made it and what model/version it is. Also, what bios is it, Award, Phoenix, AMI etc.

thats a good sign, that does mean that you have a bios protection that saved you. Now we have to repair it.

It can be re-flashed but it has to be done the old fashion way. The easiest method is using a floppy but im guessing that it found a cdrom drive because you dont have a floppy. If all you have is a cdrom, we have to look at getting you a bootable cd. Your also going to need the award flash utility and the .bin file that you downloaded.

If you have a floppy, or the means to temporarily add one, this will be alot easier. Let me know if you can do so but its probably going to be tomorrow before i can get back to you. Someone else might stop by and continue with this while im gone, never know.

Neb, i was trying to figure a way to do this from CD but not having much luck. You really need to turn up a floppy drive, from there we should be able to fix it pretty easily.
