Problem with Wireless Router

Postby thug » Thu Jun 28, 2007 5:49 pm

My father-in-law is setting up a wireless router and ran into a problem. I was hoping it made sense to someone at the forum here and I could help him out. First off, he is running XP and has his PC wired to the router. It's a NetGear RangeMax NEXT I believe. Anyway, they have a laptop as well but only one or the other can be connected to the internet. If they are using the PC the laptop can not connect and if they are using the laptop the PC can't connect. Does this make any sense to anyone else? Thanks for any suggestions.

thug,

It sounds like there might be an IP conflict to me.

Go to Control panel > Network connections > right click on the connecting device and select properties.
Now select TCP/IP and click properties, make sure that "obtain an IP address automatically" is check,
as well as " obtain DNS server address automatically".
Reboot the systems and see if they both connect now.

Thanks Gecko. I'll give your suggestions a try when I'm over there this weekend.
