HJT Log, system lags on startup

Postby integrx » Wed Apr 25, 2007 9:07 am

Gecko would you mind helping me out please. Here's my problem, when I boot up the system, everything loads fine, except for my network (that network icon connection does not show up), this causes me to not be able to go on AIM, or run live update, or update ad aware.

Here is my HTJ log, ran HJT about 3 mins after a reboot. Previous to this I ran the computer in safe mode and ran AVG anti spy ware and ad aware and cleaned everything that showed.

I don't see anything in your log that would affect your connection.

Let's see if there is something that is being run at startup.

Start HijackThis and click the Open the misc tools section now put a check next to "List also minor sections (full)
Now click the "Generate StartupList log" button notepad will open copy the contents of notepad into your reply.

Thanks its been like 10 mins, and the network icon just appeared as I was doing this. Another thing is my symantec anti virus scanner disables itself a few mins after startup.

integrx,

You have a file that might be a trojan but lets make sure befor we remove it.
Go to My Computer->Tools/View->Folder Options->View tab and make sure that 'Show hidden files and folders' is enabled. Also make sure that Display the contents of System Folders' is checked. Remember to reset these when done.
Please visit
Click on Browse... and navigate to the following file: C:\Windows\system32\shmgrate.exe
Click Open
Please let me know the results.

I think there is still something running at startup but it is being hidden.
Please download extract it to your root like this:
C:\rkr\RootkitRevealer.exe

Close all other programs, windows and disable your screen saver before you start RootkitRevealer.
While RootkitRevealer is running, you shouldn't do anything at all with the PC.
Put down the mouse, back away slowly, and let the program do its work.

Start RootkitRevealer.exe and press the Scan button.
It will take some time to finish an hour is common so just wait it out.
Once the scanning is finished RootkitRevealer will create a log, please copy the contents of that log into your reply along with the results from jotti.
