2 Hard Drives and a Zip

Postby redart » Sun Apr 22, 2007 2:58 am

Hi,
I have just installed a second hard drive in an old Win98SE machine. The machine also has an internal Iomega Zip drive and a CDROM drive. Problem is that Windows wont recognise the second hard drive when the zip drive is connected. If I disconnect the zip drive then the second hard drive is seen. How can I get it to see both at the same time?. Drive assignments with everything connected are C: (primary HD), D: (zip), and E: (CDROM). I have tried changing the CDROM to F:. When I disconnect the zip drive the second hard drive is seen as D:. Thanks.

I am assuming that all the devices are IDE, not SCSI.

So what I would do is check my master/slave assignments.

I would make your main HD the primary master, and the new drive primary slave.

Take the zip and make it secondary master and the cdrom the secondary slave.

See if that works.

Thanks for the reply PCGuy. I have them all recognised now, however I think my main problem was to have three devices on the one cable !. Two device maximum per ribbon, right ?.
One minor point,.....the zip drive is recognised fine but windows is calling it a 3 1/2" floppy drive instead of "Removable Drive" or something similar. Any ideas how to get it named correctly ?. Thanks again.
