Caeliferum,

You should never use instruction to fix one system on a different system.

Start a new thread for the other system and post a hijackthis log.

Maybe there's a misunderstanding. I am posting this from a different PC with internet access because the PC I am working on with that HJT log and your instructions has lost internet access as you had warned. I am, however, receiving errors with WinSockFix's Reg Backup and therefore needed your input before using the "Fix" command

Caeliferum,

Sorry my bad I thought you ment two systems, lets try a different approach to backup the registry.

Click stat > Run and type "regedit" (w/o quotes) in the box and press enter.

In the regedit window select My computer and then click "File" and select export.
Name the file and click save, now run the WinSockFix

AVG Resident Shield has given me the following warning while making the previous post.

"While opening file: C:\Documents and Settings\HP_Administrator\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\S2DINEN5\posting[2].htm

Virus found hosts."

Caeliferum,

Yes that is the right host file :) it is clean nothing in there.

Let's try running AVG in safe mode and see if it can remove it:
Reboot in to Safe mode:
Restart Windows after you see the BIOS screen and before Windows starts to load.
Start tapping the F8 key. The Windows Advanced Options Menu appears.
Use the Arrow key to ensure that the Safe Mode option is selected.
Press Enter. The computer then begins to start in Safe mode.

Start AVG and do a Full scan of your system, quarantine anything it finds and make sure that you Save the Report.

Reboot to normal and Explore to:
C:\Program Files\HijackThis\HijackThis.exe
Right click on HijackThis.exe and select Rename and rename it to hjt.exe
So it should look like this:
C:\Program Files\HijackThis\hjt.exe

Now click on the newly renamed hjt.exe and create a new scan log.
Post the new log along with the AVG report in your reply.
