ok, weird stuff...

Postby modernsamurai » Mon Nov 20, 2006 10:23 am

ok, my comp's been weirder than normal. just random shit like my start menu not autohiding, freezing up (i think it was the first time since i got this comp, that it froze up), and random shit like that. in addition, it's been a good while since any spyware or such was found on my comp, even though it seems like there should be. i've seen internet worm definition coming up, saying that my comp was invading, well, my comp. however, the destination port is always 0. and, when i scan with avg, it says no viruses found. however, in the "result/infection" column, it has listed either an address or "change" for several objects. so, i scanned with hijackthis, and rootkit revealer. rootkit gave me the following (though, when i tried to save the log, it keeps saying it can't find "desktop" and i can't manage to save it. so this is all typed).

path:
HKLM\S-1-5-21-2843587802-174625610-1003\software\adobe\mediabrowser\mru\illustrator\applicationpath

hklm\software\classes\clsid\{1ffdcb17-a677-11d7-a773-00c04f68f44e}\pins\input\types\
(there are four of this one, which is then followed by a group of numbers and letters, all in {}, and all sharing the end of "/22")

hklm\software\classes\webcal\url protocol

hklm\software\microsoft\cryptography\rng\seed

hklm\software\microsoft\windows nt\currentversion\prefetcher\tracesprocessed

hklm\software\microsoft\windows nt\currentversion\prefetcher\tracessuccessful

hklm\software\microsoft\windows nt\currentversion\prefetcher\lasttracefailure

hklm\system\controlset001\services\sptd\cfg
discription: access denied

the next four are my msn messenger logs, for some reason. their discriptions were "visible in windows API, but not in MFT or directory index" for the first three, then "hidden from windows API" in the fourth.

c:\documents and settings\owner\local settings\temp\perflib_perfdata_1448 .dat
disc: visible in windows api, but not in mft or directory inex

c:\documents and settings\owner\local settings\temp\~dff8ea.tmp
disc: hidden from windows api.

c:\documents and settings\owner\local settings\temporary internet files\content.ie5\be39967j\rss[3].xml
disc: visible in windows api, mft, but not in directory index.

c:\documents and settings\owner\local settings\temporary internet files\content.ie5\f1sckrf3\rss[2].xml
disc: hidden from windows api (for the next two, as well)

c:\documents and settings\owner\local settings\temporary internet files\content.ie5\gdavsxav/rss[1].xml

c:\documents and settings\owner\local settings\temporary internet files\content.ie5\strz7pku\rss[1].xml

c:\windows\softwaredistribution\datastore\logs\tmp.edb
disc: visible in windows api, but not in met or directory index.

the first ten results (including the unspecified four) have the discription of "data mismatch between windows API and raw hive data."

next, is my hijackthis log.

Hi modernsamurai,

I don't see anything bad in the rootkit revealer log but you do have a number of active X files in you temp folder.

Lets do some temp file clean up first
May I recommend that you download CCleaner from to help clean temp files from your computer.

Once you have downloaded CCleaner double click on the file to start the installation of the program.
Select your language and click OK, then next, read the license agreement and click I Agree.
Click next to use the default install location. Click Install then finish to complete installation.

Now double click the CCleaner shortcut on the desktop to start the program.
On the "Windows" tab, under "Internet Explorer," uncheck "Cookies" if you do not want them deleted. (If deleted, you will likely need to reenter your passwords at all sites where a cookie is used to recognize you when you visit).

If you use either the Firefox or Mozilla browsers, the box to uncheck for "Cookies" is on the Applications tab, under Firefox/Mozilla.

Click on the "Options" icon at the left side of the window, then click on "Advanced."
Deselect "Only delete files in Windows Temp folders older than 48 hours."
Click on the "Cleaner" icon on the left side of the window, then click Run Cleaner to run the program.

Caution: It is not recommended that you use the "Issues" feature unless you are very familiar with the registry as it has been known to find legitimate items.

After CCleaner has completed its process, click Exit.

Next please download the look1_957.zip file from and unzip it to your desktop.
It will be named look1.bat. Double click to run it. It will create a file called look1.txt.

Copy and paste the contents of the look1.txt into your reply along with a fresh Hijackthis log.

There is a good chance that some of the weirdness that you describe is being caused by these facts:
You have two anti virus programs installed and running.
Norton AntiVirus
AVG

You also have three anti spyware programs installed and running.
ewido\security suite
McAfee AntiSpyware
Microsoft AntiSpyware

You should only have one anti virus program installed and running.
You should only have one anti spyware program installed and running.

I would recommend that you uninstall one of the anti virus programs your choice.
I would recommend that you keep Ewido and uninstall the other two anti spyware programs

Please copy this to Notepad and print it. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes.
You should not have any open windows when you are following the procedures below.

Reboot in to Safe mode:
Restart Windows after you see the BIOS screen and before Windows starts to load.
Start tapping the F8 key. The Windows Advanced Options Menu appears.
Use the Arrow key to ensure that the Safe Mode option is selected.
Press Enter. The computer then begins to start in Safe mode.

Close all other open Windows and have HiJackThis Fix:
O9 - Extra button: (no name) - {CD67F990-D8E9-11d2-98FE-00C0F0318AFE} - (no file)
O23 - Service: FGR - Unknown owner - C:\DOCUME~1\Owner\LOCALS~1\Temp\FGR.exe (file missing)

Go to My Computer->Tools/View->Folder Options->View tab and make sure that 'Show hidden files and folders' is enabled. Also make sure that Display the contents of System Folders' is checked. Remember to reset these when done.
Delete the following Files/Folders if they exist:

C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Local Settings\Temp\FGR.exe

If you cannot delete these file(s)then:
Start HijackThis and click the Open the misc tools section now click Delete a file on reboot
Select the file to be deleted on reboot:

Click open but click no to reboot now

Now, empty all your TEMP Folders, Temporary Internet Files Folder and then empty your Recycle Bin, reboot and post a new HiJackThis log.
