email problem

Postby efiste2 » Fri Oct 13, 2006 11:25 pm

i keep getting undelivered/failed to delever email messages, but i am not sending them. I am assuming theres a bug in my PC thats sending random emails out, can anyone tell me what sort of bug this is called. eg spyware or similar. and if possible a program that may root it out. that works like SEARCH AND DESTROY does. Thanks :(

That would be a worm virus but I'm not saying that your are, or are not infected.

If some email spammer is spoofing your email address you could also receive those notices.

In the upper left of this forum under Helpful Weblinks is a link "Free Online Virus Scan"
That will take you to trend micro's free online virus scanner it should any worm virus if you have one.

If you still keep getting the failed email messages then you could download , unzip it to it's own folder.
Start HijackThis and select 'Do a system scan and save a logfile'
Now post the contents of the logfile back into this thread

Your log is clean :)

I don't see any virus using the registry to start itself.
Norton should have picked up on any worm virus, so most likely it's a spamer spoofing your address.
