Computer shuttind down again....

Postby Junior_co » Thu Oct 12, 2006 3:14 pm

Well, the computer that I just rebuilt is still having some issues...

This morning, while My Better Half was working on it, it just shut down. This is the second time in two days. And just a few moments ago, it shut down on me when I tried to plug in a USB cord to transfer a picture (of the Blue Screen seen below)

She says that when this happens it starts ticking...
This is a picture MBH took of the blue screen....

And here is the event properties from around the time of the Blue screen... (the only Warning from around the time of the incident...)
An error was detected on device \Device\Harddisk0\D during a paging operation.

Are you by chance running this system in Windows Classic theme?
If so try changing to windows xp theme.

The only other thing I could find is if your HDD is connected as a slave and not master.

But as you said the clicking worries me too you might want to run a smart test on the hdd.

Junior

If you go into the bios, you can enable S.M.A.R.T drive diagnostics it test your drive for errors on boot.

Plus if you find the brand name of the hard drive you can go to their web site and download a diagnostic that will build a floppy that you boot up with and test the drive in question. Western Digital usually includes a diagnostic disk with each hard drive.

The clicking noise is usually an indicator that you only have hours left to get data off of the drive

I would recommend that if you can boot it up. Try getting your files off with a USB drive.

Second best would be to boot with another drive and have that as a slave and pull the files off a folder at a time.

Using Ghost is an all or nothing shot usually, so I don't recommend that route.

If its not the hard drive, look at the capacitors on the motherboard, if they are domed over or leaking that could be the cause. The Dell GS280's motherboardsare good at that.

hope this helps
