Question, needing immidiant Assistance please.

Postby IMCENTech » Mon Oct 02, 2006 1:23 am

I was updating my Direct X and recieved an untrusted error. After doing some research I found that I needed to do a repair on my Win XP SP2, so I did a reinstall repair over my old Windows files. Now I am able to use my computer just fine, and all of my old files are still located on the disk, however there are a few issues that I have questions for that I need some immidiate assistance with. Thanks in advance.

First my old profile folder is listed however there is now a new one listed, and I would like to be able to use my old one just as it was. How am I able to make this useable?

Next, my programs are still all listed in Program files, yet nothing is listed in Add/Remove Programs. My Local Disk seems to be changed from C:\ to D:\ and I believe this is why none of my drivers/programs are being listed normally, and why none of my shortcuts are working. How am I able to change this back to C:\ so that all of my program files and drivers are recognized properly by my PC.

Thanks again in advance.

I am curious as to the exact error you received that made you believe you had to do a repair reinstall?
I'm also curious if you have two hard drives or two partitions on one drive?

To change the drive letter and paths:
Start > Control panel > Administration tools > Computer management > on the left side select Disk Management.
Right click on your current D drive and select Change Drive letter and paths

I have already tried using that to change the drive letter. As for the error, here it is.

There's a chance that System file checker can repair the cab file.

Put your windows XP CD in your CD drive and then open a command window.
Start > Run type cmd and press enter, at the command prompt type:
sfc /scannow and press enter
