Time to upgrade...finally.

Postby Dave_Lethal » Wed Jun 28, 2006 7:59 pm

I get my check a week from Friday and I plan on using it to upgrade my computer. I have loads of questions though.

First of all, are there any step by step documents on the net that I can download and use as a guide in case I get lost?

I was searching for motherboards on newegg.com and most of the boards listed there are ATX. I don't think I have a case that will hold an ATX board, so I will also need a new case.

Also, I'm a little confused on what this board comes with. Are the processors already on the board? What about RAM? Or an OS? Here are the boards I am talking about:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductLi ... 18&Go.y=35

I have a special interest in this board: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6813131586

I plan on spending 200 dollars or less on a board. Every two weeks I'm going to try to buy an upgrade in other areas, like more RAM, better sound card, and anything else I may need.

Another question I have: Can I use my existing parts in the new case to go along with my new motherboard to get a running computer? I've never really attempted anything like this before, so I'm pretty much clueless.

Any ideas on how much this is going to cost me? I want a nice top-of-the-line (or near there) machine without making myself broke.

I probably will have lots more questions, but I'll just start here. Any reccomendations on a board and case? Anything that I really need to know that I am missing before I start spending all this money?

:)

So much of what you are asking depends on what you plan on using the system for.
Such as gamming, graphics/3d rendering, movie editing, internet mostly word processing.
