IE 6 send a link problem

Postby jerry » Tue Jan 06, 2004 2:15 am

 I have XP Home Edition, IE6, and OE 6 installed on my computer. OE 6 is my default mail handler but when I am in IE and choose tools - mail and news - then send a link, it does not take me to OE it takes me to one heck of a link as follows:

http://loginnet.passport.com/digest.srf ... 253b&log=1

At this page it asks for my net passport login? IF I choose "send this page" it sends me to this same link as noted above.

Is there a way to redirect this to OE????

Thanks for your consideration of this problem,

Jerry :)

Have you tried: IE / Tools / Internet Options / Programs / Specify it there?

Yes I have, it shows Outlook Express as the program to use for e-mail and news. I have looked in the registry and to this point have not found where IE is being redirected to that long link that I originally posted in the problem statement.

I'm a bit confused - are you trying to open a 'mailto' link in OE from IE?

When you have Internet Explorer open and you want to send a link to the page to someone via e-mail and you click on tools and then mail and news on the drop down you should be able to click "send a link" and it would take you to your default e-mail - mine is Outlook Express. When I click on send a link or send a page it takes me to the big old long link that I posted in the original question - not to Outlook Express. IF I go to Internet Options and click on the tab for programs it shows Outlook Express as my mail program - but it sure doesn't go there.

Thanks for the info Brad,,,,,,,,,,,,,,but I downloaded Spybot and updated it and ran it. It found many problems and I cleaned my PC but the original problem with "send a link" remains the same :(

Have you applied service pack 1? If you haven't you should. If you have, try going to the 'program access and defaults' option on start menu and selecting 'microsoft'.

I tried to do that but it keeps taking my settings back to Custom. It tells me that I do not have a mail default program. I go into Outlook to select it as the default mail service and it is greyed out.

I wonder if I get rid of net messinger and/or Windows Messingerit will fix this problem?????? and if so how do I delete that part of Microsoft.

Hello there,
I have encountered the same problem too.
First I tried to DELETE MY NET.PASSPORT ACOUNT
from: www.passport.net
It didn't work, so I looked for
an alternative solution -

http://www.outlook-tips.net/howto/send_link.htm

Please notice that you have to make sure
Outlook Express is your default mail program.
(Tools > Option > General > Make Default).

Still, I rather fix the original problem, tell me if you got something.
Cheers Noam.
