Consoles vs PC debate

tbh, the "console" days have, imo, been brought to an end. You can do so much on a console these days that they're pretty much an off the shelf PC, and thats going to become even more true when the PS3 comes out. Sure you won't really use it for typing up a word document or an excel spreadsheet, but if someone wrote programs like these to a CD a console can use, theres already keyboards you can plug in and you can use your memory stick to save it. Lol, completly pointless but meh.

I've played the xbox 360 and I was very unimpressed. I've seen Call Of Duty2, Perfect Dark Zero and Project Gotham Racing. I've got COD2 on my PC and it looks and runs far better on my pc than on the Xbox360. From what I saw i think the xbox360 version had texture detail FAR lower than what I use (max everything) and the resolution looked like 640x480. not even HDTV quality, I think I was playing it on a HDTV too, It was a damn big screen and very new (I babysit rich kids ).
PDZ had some nice effects but again, with such a poor resolution I couldnt see what I was doing, and the physics were **** (pardon me). I shot some guy with a shotgun and he floated backwards slowly (no blood btw, wtf), his posture barely changing, and then when he reached the wall he just seemed to slide along it and fall down with the gravity of less than the moon!!!

Most games these days you can get on all formats anyway, even the handhelds. But they always look best on PC, as long as you've got good hardware. And the number of controlers you can buy for a PC these days makes them the best choise for any game.

I think the last proper console we'll see is the new Nintendo Revolution. Which I'm more likly to buy than the PS3 and 360. It's more than a console. It's 5 consoles rolled into one, because you can download old console games to play on it. But then, on a pc, just download an emulator, for free. haha.

true but for the price consoles are and what they are acheiving now days people who are not familier or dislike pcs will go for consoles just because ease of use. You cant just slap a game into ur pc and play it. you need driver updates, installing, patches etc. Why i think consoles are still gonna improve and might be even more popular then pcs in future. Think about it if a 209 quid console can run games as good as pc can a person isnt going to spend over 1k on upgrading a PC to play COD2 just because it looks better if you get me?

I like both PC and Console but i think its good what technology they have got to achieve the standards they have now days in console gaming. Think m8 in a year or 2 your pc wont be able to play games on max settings consoles will still be able to play new games without having to upgrade it for a longer period of time..

I was gonna upgrade my pc but i have lack of funds and i dnt think its worth me spending over 1k on upgrading pc when i got a 360 that can play same games :S . Even though i agree PC are much better for handling shooters, but fighting games, racing etc consoles are great init

What you have to remember is, pc's aren’t usually built purely for games, but obv consoles are, so they only stick in gaming parts.
I have to be honest though, I think pc games just feel better. Its more personal, consoles are very much like arcade games.

I mean i have a couple of consoles, and they get VERY boring.
And you comment about patches lol they come out for a reason. That’s a bad thing with consoles, most console games have some serious glitches in them, where as pc games can be fixed, tweaked and customised. But the way things seem to be going, i imagine you will be able to patch console games soon n e way, like have some sort of running patch thats stored on the hard drive.

But on the other hand, consoles don’t really crash that often lol. Pc's are good at crashing.

I would also have to say it depends on the genera of game, for example hl2 on ps2.... would be Pants, no control, it would just suck.

How ever, one example is bf2, its lush on pc, but would suck on ps2, but they have released a different version on ps2 which i personally think looks really good, but its not the same game.

I would just say pc games, you should of done a Poll Thing, to see what everyone thinks.

Venice made a good point about patches. Something else is mods. You can get almost unlimited extra content for PC games, potentially allowing it to last forever. This would be more difficult for a console to support.

Following robbos point of the cost of consoles. True, they are cheaper. But as I've said, they dont perform as well. Its true that you are very unlikly to be able to build a PC that can even play COD2 for the price of a 360. But considering what your buying with a pc: HDD, RAM, CPU, MOBO, etc.. and as venney said, the pc is for more than gaming. the 360 is gaming specific and doesnt not have such a complex build. every 360 has specific components that cannot be changed (yes you can have a HDD with yor 360 or not, but there is only 1 HDD make i belive) this allows for the components to be made cheap in bulk. Finding out how much RAM and the closest compareable CPU on the market to what is in the 360, etc. You will probably end up with quite a low/medium spec PC but more expensive than the 360.

I just thought I'd say, what do you spend more time on? console or pc?

Interesting stuff, this is a great topic. From my point of view, the gaming industry wont change much either way. The pc gamers will always be pc gamers and console gamers will always be console gamers. I see it as more of a personal preference than performance rating. I will always be a pc gamer, and its more to do with personal satisfaction with the machines i build and what there capable of. Its not the same as going buy something already built for the job. Its cheaper than upgrading or building a new pc however most pc owners are going to find themselves upgrading to keep up with applications much less gaming standards. As we progress into the future, everything is geared more toward 64 bit systems. We already have 64 bit Windows and Linux versions avaliable and basic applications are not far behind. 32 bit cpu's are harder to find everyday (unless you buy intel) so upgrading is unaviodable. Consoles will eventually run out of options as far as features go before they become a full blown pc but if you already own a pc there wont be much point in buying something that can do what you pc can already do.
