Help with XP PRo!

So this HAS to be a windows error. This is what happens: i reboot my computer.. and there was an error saying like.. last time you rebooted there was an error in a program or you turned off your computer manually.. so it says boot in safe mode, boot with previous settings that worked, start windows normally. i have tried everything.. after the windows xp screen is done loading.. the screen stays black and i can see my cursor but the screen is black like the desktop didnt load.. know whats wrong?
