Bad RAM Slots?

Postby patkim » Sun Feb 05, 2006 6:10 am

I still have a very old Celeron 400 Based system :) It has some BX CT BabyAT Mobo having three RAM Slots. I have (rather had!) two 128 MB SDRAM sticks fitted into two slots.

Surprisingly I noticed that BIOS indicates Base Memory 640K, Extended 130048 K and other as 384 K. Even windows system properties indicates only 128 MB RAM

I did some self-analysis and realized that system is accepting SDRAM (either one of 2 sticks) only in slot 2. Anything in 1 & 3 are ignored and if nothing is there in slot2, it fails to boot with long beep.

Is this indicative of Bad RAM Slots? As either of two RAM sticks work when only in slot2

And with only 128 MB RAM fitted, how to interpret the 640K + 130048K + 384K as indicated in BIOS.
