Cold Boot Problem

Postby H1081Dan » Thu Dec 18, 2003 5:54 pm

Here my problem, after the computers been off it takes a few tried to get it to post and boot, once it posts its absolutely fine. Here what happens:
Hit the power button, fans start up, busy light flashes on cdrw, hard drive light comes on for a second, monitor does not kick on, no beeps are heard (normal boot beeps once), hit restart button, no diff. Turn the pc off, wait a minute or two, hit the power button again, fans start up, busy light flashes on cdrw, hard drive light comes on for a second, monitor does not kick on, no beeps are heard, shut it down, wait a couple minutes, hit the power button again, boom, boots right up like nothing happened. My bios has event logs, nothing in there about any problems. Very frustrating problem here. ......After a power loss it can take up to 20 tries of doing this to get it to post. I was told my someone people in another forum that it really sounded like the power supply. SO this week I installed a thermaltake 480W ps. Problem still there as just as bad. Its to the point I dont want to shut it down anymore.

Note: Once the system it booted it runs super, not a problem. I could play quake III all day without a singe glitch. I just built this computer last feb. I have hit a dead end here. Please help me :whine:

I would suggest that you reseat you video card.

Power your system off disconnect the AC cord remove your video card.
While it’s out, inspect the contact fingers make sure that they are clean.
You can use a pencil eraser to clean the contacts, just don’t press too hard.
Reinstall your video card, connect the AC cord, turn system on.
