I'm going to try a completely different approach

Please download, install, and update Ad-Aware but do not scan with it yet
you can download Ad-Aware from

Next download and install the add-on for Ad-Aware

Reboot into safe mode and start Ad-Aware click on the gear icon in the upper right
Click the scanning button and check ‘scan within archives, click the proceed button to save this setting.

Now click on the Add-ons button select the vx2 cleaner and click the run tool button.
If you computer is infected with VX2, a dialog box with text such as “New VX2 variant found” or “VX2 variant 1 found” will appear.
Press "Clean" and a dialog box with text “The first phase completed. Please reboot and perform a Smart Scan" will appear reboot your system manually. When the scan finishes delete everything it has found.
Repeat this until the VX2 Cleaner reports "System clean". Press "Close” to exit.

Now run a full system scan with Ad-Aware, delete everything it finds

Now, empty all your TEMP Folders, Temporary Internet Files Folder and then empty your Recycle Bin, reboot and post a new HiJackThis log.

When I ran the VX2 cleaner, it said "New VX2 variant found". I clicked Clean, but it "Failed to Clean, Check for a new version of VX2 cleaner."

I rebooted into Safe Mode, ran the cleaner but again it failed to clean. I ran a full system scan with Ad-Aware, deleted everything it found, and tried to run the cleaner again but it failed to clean once again. I repeated this process 4 or 5 times with the same results. Should I keep doing this? It doesnt seem like it can fix it.

Run VX2Finder just as above when the scan is complete click Guardian.reg, click yes Click User agent, click yes,
it should scan again, click Guardian.reg, click yes Click User agent, click yes
Keep doing this until the User agent is grayed out.

Run HijackThis but do not fix anything yet
Use HijackThis to find the random name.dll copy the path ( C:\WINDOWS\system32\some random name.dll)

Next run Killbox paste the below into the text box:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\guard.tmp
Put a check next to ‘Standard file kill ‘ and next to ‘End explorer while killing file’
Now try and delete:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\some random name.dll

You should know the drill by now if you cannot delete it try deleting on reboot.

Do not let it boot into normal boot to safe mode!

Repeat the all of the above, but this time before you reboot run HijackThis and fix:
O20 - Winlogon Notify: RunOnceEx - C:\WINDOWS\system32\some random name.dll
O23 - Service: Command Service (cmdService) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\QWRtaW5pc3RyYXRvcgAA\command.exe (file missing)

Reboot with fingers crossed and post a new log

OK, it doesnt look good, this is what happened.

I ran VX2Finder. Did the whole Guardian.Reg, User Agent process for 20 mins but the USer Agent button would not grey-out. Should I keep on doing it? So I just continued with the rest of the steps.

When I tried to delete C:\WINDOWS\system32\guard.tmp wiht KillBox, it said the file did not exist. The 'random dll' had to be deleted on reboot with a dummy.

I boot into safe mode, did again what i just mentioned, deleted 020 and 023 with HJT, rebooted and here is the new log.

Im starting to get worried, most spyware/adware fixes arent this bad....

All right download (the link is about half way down the page) and install it.
Once it’s installed drop a windows XP CD in and start Bart’s PE builder.
Select the CD drive as the source, put a check next to Create ISO image, click Build.
Once the ISO is built, burn it with your favorite burning program.

Now run HijackThis to get the latest file name, but do not try and fix anything.
Next you want to boot from the CD you burned, you might have to edit the BIOS to boot from CD first.
(at the boot screen hit the Delete button to open the BIOS got to advanced and set the first boot device)

Once Bart’s PE is loaded click on run and browse to C:\windows\system32\cmd.exe, click ok.
At the command prompt type:
cd c:\windows\system32 and press enter
now type:
del random_file_name.dll and press enter
If the file cannot be found type:
dir and press enter.
Look for a .dll file that is dated the time of your shutdown or last boot up.
This will be the file you want to delete, just type:
del file-name.dll and press enter,
Once the file is deleted reboot the system, takeing out the CD and post a new log.
