cd-rom removal

Postby Cactus » Fri Dec 12, 2003 4:54 am

How do I remove a cd-rom or floppy drive from a Compaq 5000 tower case?
They have this big bulky face that raps the case in the front.
I have the side off and they no doubt slide out the front.
But how do you disconnect the cd-rom from the case?
It has white clips on the one side I can see.

Can anybody help me?

Open the cd storage compartment(below your power button) and grab the bottom of the colored face plate.Pull it straight to you and it will snap off.Now you will see the quick release tabs on both sides of the drive.Push them in toward the drive and pull drive out.

Tip:it is easier to unplug the audio cable (tiny little round cable) from the motherboard on this particular setup than fighting with it on the drive.Like most of compaq's towers, the room you will have trying to plug the cable into and out of the drive, while in the case,is extremely limited.

you cant miss it.There's a little round cable, mentioned above, that runs from the cdrom to the motherboard.Just follow it down from the drive to the board and unplug it there.

having a partition isnt a bad thing. If thats the only reason you want to repartition it,i would think about leaving it.Example being,i use several partitions.I store my mp3's on one, pics and videos on one,all my setup files (software instalation mostly) on another and finally windows has a partition to itself.I rather this personally for orginazation and if i crash, get an ugly virus or anything causing me to format,i wont lose anything. As far as your drivers, you would be better to download them through Compaq Support then trying to keep whats installed.
