XP Home sp2 will not boot normally

Postby Mr_Roboto » Tue Sep 13, 2005 5:30 pm

Hello,

I have a machine that is running XP Home with sp2 installed that will not sucessfully boot. When I power on the machine it POSTs OK and starts loading windows. The XP splash screen appears and shortly there after the computer shuts down and reboots. I then get the "Sorry that windows had a problem......" and a list of booting options.

I can't boot in regular mode or to the last known good configuration.

I can boot into all of the various safe modes.

Any Ideas?

Hi Mr_Roboto, welcome to pctech.

It starts in safe mode so thats great, here's what i need you to do.

Start the machine and enter your account in safe mode.
Right click on My Computer and select Properties.
Now click the Advanced tab.
Click the Startup and Recovery button.

In the window that just opened up, you have 2 sections.

1. System startup

2. System failure

In system failure i need you to remove the check next to "Automaticly Restart"

Click OK and close everything back out then reboot.

You should get a blue screen with an error code this time instead of a quick reboot. If so, write down the error and the numbers and let us know what they are.
