Can laptop with only one CD drive burn CD to CD?

I have Nero Express installed to burn CD to CD. I have only one drive. This drive is CD-RW and DVD-ROM. But I have not been successful burning CD to CD. Is it because my laptop has only one drive. I am thinking of buying another external CD/DVD drive with USB 2.0. Will adding an external DVD/CD drive with USB 2.0 help to burn CD to CD and also burn DVD to DVD?

When you are in Nero click on the image tab and name the image to create first.
Once you do this then Nero will fist copy the cd to an image on your hard drive then burn the CD from that image.
