Excel not responding

I have been observing an interesting problem on my office PC at work. I have to work with a few MS Excel files having number of Visual Basic Control on it (Check boxes) File size around 700 kb.
Till a point everything was fine, suddenly one fine moment these files started taking too long to open, excess of 5 minutes to open a file and during this time Excel goes into ‘Not Responding’ and CPU usage goes 100%. Again same situation when closing them!

Other excel files open as usual and this problem suddenly appeared. Earlier there was no problem opening those files as such!
The admin re-installed MS Office but no luck. It’s XP SP2 & MS Office 2000.
Let me know if anyone can suggest any possible solution.

Is this a networked shared file or exclusive to you and your system?

It's on my local PC and is not shared or networked.
