limited or no connectivity problems

Postby Dave_Lethal » Sun Aug 14, 2005 10:33 pm

Hello.

Yesterday, I was messing around with port forwarding and such on my Speedstream modem (I have SBC DSL) for my Half-Life Dedicated Server. Well, everything was working fine last night, but I got up this morning and my internet was not working.

I have 2 computers hooked up through a router.

I ran HiJack this on the main PC and there was an entry in there that said broken internet connection due to bad LSP , run LSPFix, or something of that nature. I checked it off to delete it, and I got a message saying "If this file is associated with New.net, etc etc, then run Spybot to get rid of the problem. Well, New.net WAS in the add/remove programs list. I got rid of it and the files associated with it on my PC. That was the only thing that I noticed was wrong in HijackThis.

Well, for another hour, I could not connect to the internet on either computer.

I restarted the main computer and my own computer, and was finally able to connect on my own computer, but not on the main computer, it said limited or no connectivity. After about 5 mintues of browsing, I ended up with the same error message on my own computer.

This went on for about another hour, being able to connect and then suddenly dying on me.

So, I shut down both computers, unplugged both the modem and the router, and let it sit for about 10 minutes. Then I plugged the modem and router back in, restarted both PC's, and I have was able to connect just fine. But 10 minutes later, my connection died again.
I did run LSPFix but I am not sure what I am doing. The only files in there are listed under keep, and they are

mswsock.dll
winrnr.dll
rsvpsp.dll

These are all supposed to be there, correct?

Any ideas why my internet is acting goofy like this?

I connected my computer directly to the modem, and disconnected the main computer, and everything seems to be working so far...

Alright, hmm. I think my router may be fried.

I can connect both pc's when I hook them up directly to the modem. Obviously, I can only connect one PC at a time now :(

I'm not sure what happened to the router or why it decided to suddenly stop working. The router is a Speedstream SS2524, if anyone has any info on this it would be greatly appreciated. I hope I don't need a new router :|

Another update here. I was surfing the web on the PC that that I connected directly through the modem, and the connection died out of nowhere. I unplugged the modem for 30 seconds, plugged it back in and everything was working again.

The weird thing is, when the internet died again, I got the same "limited or no connectivity" message. Could this problem be on SBC's end? It's very frustrating.

Here is a HJT log, although I don't see anything here that could be causing the problem, although I don't know what 020 Winlogon Notify is...

It does sound like you are losing your Router. I once had one that would let me connect each pc to each other but wouldnt let the out to the internet.

Check on the manufacturor's website for any firmware updates first.

And in your HJT log, you only need this entry fixed by HJT:

O20 - Winlogon Notify: Syncmgr - C:\WINDOWS\system32\ktjsl7171.dll (file missing)
(\__/) This is Bunny.
(='.'=) Copy and paste bunny into your sig.
(")_(") Help Bunny gain World Domination.

Thanks PC Guy. I ended up buying a new router, and everything is working just fine.
