Yes I think that schools are going too far with the zero tolerance on over the counter drugs.
Last year when my youngest daughter had an ear infection she needed to take her
antibiotic medication every four hours. So I called her school about how they wanted to handle her taking this medication that she needed during school hours.
Their answer was, no drugs are allowed on campus at all, no exceptions. The only way I could have her take the meds when she needed them, was to first show proof from her Doctor that she needed this medication. Then I would have to drive to her school with only one pill, (any more then one and I could get in trouble) have my daughter taken out of class so she could take one pill off campus.
So I decided to just keep her out of school until all the medication was taken, she missed five days total.
The next week I received a call from the school district telling me that my daughter might be held back one year if she missed any more time in the remaining school year without a Doctors release. They also said that I could be prosecuted for withholding my daughter from school if I kept her out of school again without a Doctors release.
