Window crashed when playing media

Postby bsxiong » Tue Aug 02, 2005 5:36 am

hi all,

i don't know what's wrong with my computer anymore. it has happended pretty frequent now.

When i add multiple video media files into my windows medida player 10, my whole system just shuts down and restarts. I don't know whats wrong. I thought it must be that i'm having a virus or something that is keeping my away from watching movies. Becuase my MSN messenger is also infected too.

So i reinstalled my windows and the same thing happended again, when i try to add multiple video media in my player./ can anyone tell me what's wrong.

I thought i have enough rams already. over 1gig.

thanks

A few things I would try. Make sure windows and windows media player is up to date. Make sure all your video and sound card drivers are up to date. Download the latest video codecs, I think K-Lite is what you need. Try a different player. I use BSPlayer only. Its the best as far as I am concerned.

Another thing to check, is abnormally long file names, media player chokes on real long ones like this example

"Ray Charles live in concert (this is the good one) tested (7-1-05).mpg"

Explorer will hang and freeze. It gets even worse with a rewritable cd

These long file names with spaces and whatever, really mess up XP. If you go into the program that you used to download them with, and do an edit of the file name, to something more normal (no spaces or wierd characters) it might run ok.

The reason I suggested that you use the original program to edit the file, is that when you try to rename these long file names windows, explorer reboots and you get nowhere.
