Virtual memory too low!!!

Postby silverandblack74 » Thu May 19, 2005 6:08 am

Every time I start up mt PC a few minutes later I get a message that says my "windows minimum virtual memory is too low". It also says windows will increase the size , but it keeps happening. Is there something That I can set so this doesn't keep going on? Please help me!!!

If you have your Page File set to allow Windows to change the virual memory size on-the-fly, AND your hard disk is full or very fragmented, then the page file might not be able to change fast enough to keep up with Windows, which gives you the Virtual memory too low error. Try defragmenting the hard drive.
You could also increase your VM setting and purchase more RAM for your system. How much does your system have?

My OS is XP and I have 256 RAM. I defraged and it is still doing the same thing. What can I try next?

To me that sounds like a memory problem, especially since youve only got 256?! Also check you virtual page file size under properties in my computer, advnace, performance settings, advnace, virtual memory, change

If my memory serves me well then your page file size should be 1.5 times your ram for min and 3 times for max.

Yes copying files to a cd and then removing them from you hard drive will create more disk space.
Freeing up disk space might help with your low memory problem.

Just by chance do you have Norton Anti virus with the protected recycle bin?
If you do, make sure that you right click on the recycle bin and select empty Norton Protected file.
