graphics cards problems

Postby Reedly » Wed Apr 27, 2005 7:26 pm

Hello!

Long time no major problems here!!

Until now. Installed SP2, and my 2 monitor system is messing up.

On my Dell Dimension 2350:
I have a Radeon 9200 that I'm using for 1 monitor, and the internal Intel 82845G card I'm using for the 2nd monitor.

Things worked fine for nearly a year. But with SP2 whatever monitor I put on the internal video card is stuck on 640x480. I have the option to change the resolution, but if I do, I get the blue scrren STOP error:0X0000008E, a problem with ialmdev5.dll

The computer freezes, and I just have to restart and then the monitor is still wrong.

Any ideas on how to deal with this? Should I call Microsoft or not?

Thanks for your help in advance!!

It sounds like you need to update the drivers for the internal Intel 82845G card.

Thanks Gecko for your reply.

However, I called the number listed in this forum for reaching microsoft about SP2 problems and the issue is fixed!

Thanks PC Tech Forums for listing that all important number.

Basically, I needed to uninstall the latest drivers for the internal card. I had installed all new drivers for just about everything I could find once I installed SP2, but the intel card didn't seem to like that! Oops. and Oh well...

I can't believe I got free help from microsoft, whether it was an easy fix or not!

Thanks,
Reedly.
