Two Installations (XP-Pro)

Postby nim52 » Fri Mar 25, 2005 7:42 pm

I reinstalled windows and made two partitions. I formatted the second partition with the installation disc and it started to install windows on it. It gives me the option to boot from two installations. I want to get rid of the first choice which directs me to the second partition which I erased.

Go to "Start", "Settings", "Control Panel", "System", "Advanced" tab, in the "Startup and Recovery" section select "Settings", in the "System Startup" section uncheck "Time to display list of operating systems".

This isn't that hard. :)

Turn on hidden files and folders. Browse to your C: drive and find the file called boot.ini. Make a back up of this file just in case.

Right click on it and select 'Properties'. Uncheck 'Read Only'. Edit the file to remove the second OS and then save. Right click it again to put back on the 'Read Only'.

Reboot.
