Network Nightmare!!

Postby Cactus » Sat Nov 08, 2003 6:35 pm

I have 4 pc's in the house.
I'm on a Cable Connection using a DL-704 Router (4Port).
The fourth PC does not show up in the Network.
Yet when I Ping the other 3 pc's from the 1 that doesn't show up the Ping results show no packet loss.

On the pc that doesn't show up,in the Network Neighbourhood,no pc's show as being in the network.
In the Network properties I have it set to OBTAIN IP AUTOMATICLY

I need some help on this one...

Thanks

Do the other 3 machines "see" the 4th one? Did you just add the 4th one? Have you rebooted the 4th one? brad

The other pc's do not see the fourth 1.

Yes the fourth pc has been rebooted.
The fourth pc does not see itself on any network.
Double clicking the network Nei...Icon on desktop of fourth just shows Entire Network Icon but not the HOME network that the other 3 pc's are on.

Since you can ping it sounds like your TCP/IP is set up correctly but the NetBIOS/NetBEUI protocol is not. I'd check your Network settings under Bindings and make sure that NetBIOS is bound to the adapter (NIC). Perhaps the Adapter has not been updated in the network settings? This 4th computer wasn't networked on another network previously, was it?

In that case you must be running netbios over tcp/ip. Check your tcp/ip properties. Under one of the tabs you will be able to enable netbios over tcp/ip :)

Ok...I got it!
Here's what I did:
I went to the Network properties again and removed first MICROSOFT FAMILY LOGON.
Then I removed VPN adapters.
Then rebooted.

I thought I would have to reboot all pc's on network but I didn't have to.
Clicking the Network Neighbourhood icon shows all four pc's.

Thank once again for your help.
