Internet Explorer locks when WMP is opened from a site

Postby ronz28 » Thu Feb 10, 2005 3:36 pm

Hi,

When trying to view video from NBC.com, specifically the "Fruitcake Lady" clips, after the loading screen I get the "Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close." error. I haven't noticed that problem on any other site. The only requirement was WMP 9 and I have 10. I chose to send the error report but did not get any additional information after doing so. I don't know of a WMP plug-in for Firefox so, of course, it doesn't work. Any ideas?

Thanks,

Ronny

Can you give us the "details" of the error?

Thanks for the reply. By "details" do you mean the memory addresses when you click to show what the error report contains? I cannot copy/paste it and it would be a lot to type. Also, I just had IE do the same thing while trying to view a movie trailer, so it's not limited to the site I mentioned earlier.

It sounds like it could be a lack of resources....

I would try running Ad-Aware, Spybot Search & Destroy, and run a Virus scan... These can tap into your system's resources.... you can find links to all these on the top left of this page...

How often does this happen? All the time, rarely, quite often.... Does this only happen after your system has been running for a while?

Don't be shy on supplying any and all details you might even think are relevant... The folks here will weed out what they don't need...

Good on ya... and let us know...

As well as following Junior's advice.. have you tried clearing out all your temporary internet files etc ? If you're not sure how to do it.. just ask :)

Thanks everyone. I run Ad-Aware, SpyBot, Microsoft's Anit-Spy, Antivirus and am firewalled. I had accumulated about 250MB of temp internet files. After deleting them, I rebooted and still have the same problem. I've included a HijackThis report for u to look at. I'm running XP Home with a 2.26GHz P4, Radeon 9000 64MB, 768MB RAM and connect with an 8.5MBPs DSL.
