You can hang up the floppy idea, that just wont happen.
To back up to a CD you can do the following

Open My Computer
Right click on Local Disk C:
Select properties
Click on the Tools tab
Click backup

That will start a wizard to help you through

Try this:
Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Backup

If that doesn’t work try this:
Start > Run type “ntbackup.exe” (without the quotes) and click OK

Do you have Administrative rights?

You must be running Windows XP Home
The Backup utility is not included in the default installation of Windows XP Home Edition.
To manually install Backup:
Double-click the Ntbackup.msi file in the following location on the Windows XP Home Edition CD:
CD-ROM Drive:\VALUEADD\MSFT\NTBACKUP

You have to install it manually after the OS...let's see if it's there but just not installed.
Goto START>ALL PROGRAMS>ACCESSORIES>WindowsExplorer

On the left...
Click the PLUS+ sign beside MyComputer, then the PLUS+ sign beside the C: drive(or the Drive letter of the Drive that holds the original Installation files)

Now is there a Folder there called: VALUEADD?
If there is click the Plus+ beside the folder
There should be a folder there called MSFT
Click the Plus+ beside it
Then click the Setup icon...
