when quiting a program, the .exe files still run ....

Postby hue_jass » Sat Feb 05, 2005 9:31 pm

Ever since SP2 all of my programs still run when I tell them I want to quit or I close the program.

Example: Playing a DVD on my computer and quit the dvd player, but the exe was still running and used up a lot of my memory

Example 2: Played Halo for a few hours yesterday....took a break to get food so I quit Halo. Then i went back to play it and I noticed it was slow.

So i went to my taskmgr and noticed that Halo.exe was running about 3 times because I had quit and then played later on that same day.

SO I was wondering why this is happening, and if there is a way to fix the problem that programs aren't ending. There never was any problem until I noticed that i had 5mb left of free ram of my 384MB :( but the computer still wasnt that slow

so I was just one confused guy here hope somebody knows :)

Hue,
There's a registry tweak to force windows to unload dll's from the memory upon exit that might help you out. Here's a little more info on it
