SP2

Postby Tank » Fri Feb 04, 2005 6:35 am

Is it safe yet? I have heard so much bad stuff about it. Have they fixed it lol? Also my HD does not show up as 160GB which it is, it shows up as 137, i am aware of this problem of Windows XP not recognizing big drives, but how do I fix it?? I have a Western Digital Hard Drive, IDE. I tried the big space thing from Maxtor, the fix program. It said I do not have the right operating system for it. I do not think I even have SP1 lol. Can someone tell me where i can get SP1 and ONLY SP1?? Thanks.

PS: I guess throw in a place to get SP2, only if they fixed it though lol.

You need to buy a 48 bit ide card and hook your drive up to it. should see it ok
forget service pack 1 and install service pack two here is a link to the free cd from Microsoft

I don't recomend the download online, it can fail and mess up--get the disk, its free.

Windows has always had a problem reporting the hard drive size. I would not consider the hard drive " tanked " just because it reports the HD size wrong. Don't get me wrong
if there was an alternative to windows I would be using it. But for now it's all we got and if you'r on the net sp2 is a necessary evil.

I have heard a lot of complaints about SP2 and how bad it is. I my self have never had any problems with it. If your computer is not up to par and has problems before the update it will most likely fail. It is a big update and changes Windows it's self. If there is any operating files missing or are wrong.

Before doing any updates I would make sure all spam is off your system and do a disk check and other maintanance issues. It will save a lot of headache later. I would almost advise reformatting your computer to have a clean operating system before the updates. I have had no problems though in either case. I do a lot of updates with SP1 and SP2 with no troubles.

As for reporting correct HD size, Good Luck. I find Western Digital has a good drive and have never gone wrong through them.

Good Luck

WOW! That's deep

I don't think it's a SP2 problem or a controller problem. The system seems to be reading the drive, windows is just mis-reporting it. Which I have seen in almost all their versions at one time or another. I still say load SP2 and not to worry about it.

But that's JMHO
